Latest news on validation - May 2007

Near real time analysis was stopped on March 2004.
A complete re-analysis of measurements from July 2002 to March 2004 was performed with V4.61 of ESA operational Level 2 processor [Raspollini et al, 'MIPAS level 2 operational analysis', ACP, 6, 5605-5630, 2006].
This quite extensive MIPAS database (full resolution and old measurement scenario), has passed a co-ordinated validation process [see papers in  Special Issue MIPAS: potential of the experiment, data processing and validation of the results, Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics, 2007].

The processing of the measurements from January 2005 on has required a change in both the algorithm [Ceccherini et al., 'Technical note: Regularization performances with the error consistency method in the case of retrieved atmospheric profiles', ACP, 7, 1435-1440, 2007] and in the auxiliary data.
A preliminary set of Level 2 data relative to these measurements is now available for validation purposes.
Results of  analysis on these preliminary set are summarised in [P. Raspollini et al., 'Overview of MIPAS operational products', ENVISAT Symposium 2007, Montreux], where a comparison with the measurements in the old operation mode in term of precision and vertical resolution is performed.
